"Imagination is more important than knowledge"
-Einstein
The main focus of the Children's Garden is play.
The children work, learn, and socialize through
play. The child's imagination is strengthened as
she re-creates events she has witnessed and
stories she has heard. The child imitates those
around him and makes sense of his world through
play. Our play environment stimulates the
individual imagination of the child by
providing open-ended, multi-purpose
playthings. Story-time, consisting of fairy or
folk-tales, continues this nourishment of the
child's imaginative faculties.
Rhythm is also important to the young child. Our
school days follow a familiar pattern of free play,
snack, arts and crafts, circle time and outdoor play.
Nature is similarly important in a Steiner-based
education. We observe the changing of the seasons
through our songs, stories, and crafts. Our
materials are all natural, including wooden toys,
handmade dolls, and beeswax crayons.
The young child has a unique connection to nature
that we strive to protect.
All of the activities in the Children's Garden
strengthen the child's head, heart, and hands,
readying him for the academic work in the
elementary grades.
Educational Philosophy
We base our curriculum on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, founder of the Waldorf School Movement. Steiner said that children learn by thinking, moving, listening, singing, dancing, and feeling. Our aim is to engage the whole child in learning.
Mountain Song School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, or national or ethnic origin in its administrative or admissions policies.
